Many Winners at the Oscars Were Foreigners
The movie by brothers Ethan and Joel Coen, No Country for Old Men, was the big winner of the evening, with four Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture.
Marion Cotillard won for Best Actress, although she was competing against A-list actress Cate Blanchett, who played in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. In the category Best Actor, Daniel Day-Lewis was the big winner. He was up against George Clooney (Michael Clayton) and Johnny Depp (Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street).
In the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories, the winners were Spanish actor Javier Bardem, (No Country For Old Men), and British actress Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton). Many people were honoured for the first time at this year’s Academy Awards. Diablo Cody won for Best Screenplay for the movie Juno. Austria won its first Oscar for Best Foreign Film for the war drama, The Counterfeiters by Stefan Ruzowitzy.
