Marc Jacobs replacing John Galliano?

American designer may be moving houses from Vuitton to Dior.

Ever since French fashion house Christian Dior ended their association with disgraced designer John Galliano, numerous rumors have circulated about the identity of his possible replacement.

Dior has been without a creative director since March, when the flamboyant designer’s drunken, anti-Semitic rant was captured on video and went viral on YouTube. Galliano’s assistant, Bill Gaytten, presented Dior’s haute couture collection in Paris last July.

Most recently, the name of Marc Jacobs, American designer and creative director at Louis Vuitton since 1997, has risen to the top of the list of potential new creative directors for Christian Dior, reports WWD.

Although the fashion house has made no comment on the rumors, discussions are planned between the label owners and Marc Jacobs’s lawyers this week in Paris. Both Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior brands are owned by the luxury group LVMH headed by Bernard Arnault.

If the rumors are accurate, Louis Vuitton will have to find another designer to replace Jacobs. In this regard, WWD hints that Celine designer Phoebe Philo may take over.

Marc Jacobs also has his own label, and a show planned for New York’s Fashion Week in September.

Galliano made a return to fashion this month, designing a wedding dress for British supermodel Kate Moss – a beautiful creation based on a dress worn by jazz age celebrity Zelda Fitzgerald.

Galliano appeared in a Paris court on June 22 and if found guilty, faces up to six months in prison and 22,500 euros ($32,400) in fines. The verdict will be delivered on September 8.
