Marc Jacobs to head Dior?

American designer says he’s interested in heading up French brand but wants to keep his own creative team.

American fashion designer Marc Jacobs said he would be honored to work for French fashion label Christian Dior but would like to keep his own creative team if he did take a position there.

The fashion house has been scrambling to find a replacement for designer John Galliano, after the former creative director was accused of uttering racist remarks in a Parisian cafe. According to rumors, Jacobs – currently art director at Louis Vuitton – is a favorite for the position and has been having a series of closed-door meetings with chairman Bernard Arnault.

"I’m not thinking past today. I don’t know what I’m doing about anything," Jacobs told WWD. "It has nothing to do with salary. I mean, I’d be honored to do Dior. But I work with a team, and I’d like to be able to keep working with them. I think it would be really exciting. I wouldn’t be able to say no."

Both Dior and Vuitton are owned by holding company LVMH. While it is possible that Jacobs could keep both positions, it’s more likely that "he’ll end up choosing between one of two. Arnault would prefer him to go to Dior – as the billionaire sees it, Jacobs’ image will only be good for the fashion house, which was considerably shaken by the Galliano scandal," an unnamed source revealed to Female First.
