Mariah Carey to Perform at MTV Awards

The 35 year-old star, who is nominated for three awards, is the first artist confirmed to participate in the event.

The Californian trio Green Day has been given 8 nominations, and Missy Elliot and Gwen Stefani each received six.  The Irish rock group U2 has 5 nominations.

The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented on August 28 live from Miami.  P. Diddy will be the host for the evening.
