Mariah Carey’s Abusive Past

Mariah Carey says she understands how Rihanna feels, because she was also the victim of domestic abuse.

Carey says that she sympathizes with Rihanna, who was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, because she herself was mentally and physically abused, reports People.

In an interview on Larry King Live, which aired yesterday (November 4), King asked Carey about her reactions following the Rihanna incident.  "I was very sequestered, as you know, when I first started out … I wasn’t really allowed out of the house, so I can’t imagine what she went through," revealed Carey.

Mariah Carey is now happily married to singer Nick Cannon, but confessed to having lived through very difficult times in past relationships.  She added, "You know, I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in. If your situation is similar to one of the situations I’ve been in – which I won’t harp on – for me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing, where the person was in control of my life."

Also during the interview, Carey took the opportunity to deny rumours of a pregnancy, adding that she is currently concentrating on several projects, including the release of her new film, Precious, and new material.
