Marion Cotillard working for Joaquin Phoenix?

Director James Gray and Phoenix team up again for Low Life.

Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose) and Golden Globe winner Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line) will star in the upcoming film by James Gray, Low Life, reports Deadline.

Gray and Phoenix have often worked together often, including films Two Lovers, The Yards, and We Own the Night.

Low Life tells the story of Polish immigrant (Cotillard) who travels to the United States, her supposed land of opportunity. Unfortunately, on the voyage, she is forced to turn to prostitution in order to buy medicine for her sick sister, and eventually falls prey to a disreputable character played by Phoenix.

Actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is also in negotiations to join the production, and filming is expected to begin next year.

Marion Cotillard, who recently gave birth to little Marcel, can currently be seen in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. She’ll be back in theaters on October 21 in Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion. This month, Phoenix is busy shooting Paul Thomas Anderson’s religious cult drama The Master
