Actor and producer Mark Walhberg is talking about making a sequel or a trilogy of the story of boxer Mickey Ward, reports Comingsoon.net.

On Oscar night during a red-carpet interview with Extra’s Mario Lopez, Walhberg confirmed he was in talks about a sequel to The Fighter, the boxing film that went on to win two Academy Awards that night for supporting actors Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.

"Now we’re going to talk about doing number two – we’re going to do the Ward-Gatti trilogy and make it real," said Wahlberg, referring to the real-life Mickey Ward’s three fights with his most fierce opponent, Arturo Gatti.

"And you know what? You may want to play Gatti," he joked with Lopez.

The Fighter was a film project that Wahlberg had wanted to make and had physically prepared for several years. The actor was big fan of Mickey Ward, and shared important similarities with the boxer: both were from working-class families in Massachusetts from large families.

Wahlberg is set to play opposite Mila Kunis in comedy Ted next year. He also stars with Kate Beckinsdale in Contraband, due for out March 16, 2012.
