Mark Wahlberg to produce Julius Caesar movie

Mark Wahlberg has signed on to produce a new movie about Julius Caesar, which will focus on his younger years as an army general.

Mark Wahlberg will produce a film about Julius Caesar.

The actor-and-producer and his producing partner Stephen Levinson have agreed to make ‘The Roman’, which will be an origin tale focusing on the Roman ruler as a sprightly young army general, long before his move into politics, reports Deadline.

The film will tell the story of how Caesar and his men were kidnapped and enslaved by Cilician pirates, only to fight their way to freedom. According to lore, the future ruler was so stubborn and arrogant he demanded his captors double their ransom price for his safe return. Upon his escape, Caesar made good on a promise he made to return and kill his captors, brutally crucifying them.

The script was written by Travis Baker and Richard Tanne.

Wahlberg and Levinson recently closed deals with the cast of their hit HBO TV show ‘Entourage’ to return for a big screen follow-up, which has long been in the works.

The actor previously revealed the film, which was due to begin shooting earlier this year, had stalled because some of the stars were holding out for a pay rise.

On the acting side, Wahlberg will next be seen in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ and will soon begin filming a sequel to hit comedy, ‘Ted’.
