Even though the free-agent market has been open for almost a month now, a number of free agents remain uncontracted for next season.
This includes the strangely quiet Vladimir Tarasenko file.
The Russian forward could well end up signing a one-year contract.
But Tarasenko isn’t the only interesting stand-alone player still available.
Matt Dumba, Jaroslav Halak, Patrick Kane (who is not expected to sign before the start of the season) and Jonathan Toews (who has not yet decided whether or not to continue his career) are among the players still without a contract.
To this list, we can add the name of Quebec forward Maxime Comtois.
The 24-year-old left-winger became a free agent on July 1, when the Anaheim Ducks decided not to make him a qualifying offer.
Comtois explained in an interview with 98.5 that it was a mutual decision, as he wanted to leave to get another chance and a fresh start.
In the same interview, the Quebec forward said he would certainly like to play for the Montreal Canadiens.

Indeed, after discussing how much he enjoyed his time with the Ducks and how he sees them having a very bright future with all their young players, Comtois was asked about the Tricolore.
He explained that it’s clear that the Montreal Canadiens, his childhood team, would be an option that would interest him.
In fact. Comtois added that pressure doesn’t scare him at all, and that he actually enjoys playing under pressure.
The Quebecer would therefore love to play in a big market (like Montreal) where the pressure is high.
Obviously, if Kent Hughes were to drop the 24-year-old a line, he’d be delighted.
Unfortunately for Comtois, it would be surprising if the CH were to offer him a contract before the start of the season, given the already heavy congestion up front.
The Quebecer would be a great project, given that he’s only 24 and clearly still has potential, but there’s simply no room for him in Montreal right now.
A question of bad timing, but you never know.
In short, Comtois is still a free agent, and it’s clear that he’ll sign a contract for next season.
He is in contact with several teams, and we wish him all the best for the future.

According to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sports, Saudi Arabia is ready to offer €200M to PSG to acquire Kylian Mbappé and then place him in Riyadh with Al-Hilal, the country’s most successful club with 18 championships as well as 4 Asian Champions Leagues.
