May 5, 2009 – Eminem Talks About Drug Addiction

Eminem recently spoke candidly about his drug addiction and how it almost killed him.

In the June-July issue of Vibe magazine, Eminem reveals details about his drug addiction.

"It’s no secret I had a drug problem," he writes in the first-person story. "If I was to give you a number of Vicodin I would actually take in a day? Anywhere between 10 to 20. Valium, Ambien, the numbers got so high I don’t even know what I was taking," recalled the rapper.

In 2005 he was drug-free, but then later relapsed. He almost died from a drug overdose when he took several unidentified blue pills given to him by a friend.

Eminem continued, "My doctor told me those mysterious new pills were methadone, which is used to wean heroin addicts off dope." Eminem had taken the equivalent of four pouches of heroin.

He finally understood that he was addicted after looking for more drugs to combat the pain he had from an injured knee.

Eminem will release his new album, Relapse, which marks his first sober effort, on May 19, 2009.
