McWeddings offered in Hong Kong next year

Mr and Ms McDreamy can tie knot economically next year.

McDonalds will offer “McWeddings” at three restaurants in Hong Kong next year,” reports the Vancouver Sun.

With the rising cost of weddings, residents in Hong Kong will soon be able to plan a more affordable wedding reception at McDonalds. Many couples say they first met or dated their intended at the fast food restaurant, which will offer standard menu items like Big Macs and Quarter Pounders to the wedding party.

“Traditional weddings use cherries for the newlyweds to eat together and kiss. We will have French fries for them to kiss," the English-language newspaper South China Morning Post quoted Helen Cheung at McDonald’s as saying.

The cost of a traditional big Chinese wedding has become a growing burden for the younger generation. Another economic and possible social benefit for some families: no alcohol at the restaurant. No news just yet on McBaptisms or McFunerals.
