Meghan Trainor’s mum used to do her makeup.

The ‘All About That Bass’ hitmaker – who recently collaborated with cosmetics brand Clinique to create a makeup bag full of her favourite lip products – has admitted she wasn’t always as knowledgeable about beauty and was forced into wearing lipstick by her mother.

She shared: ”I didn’t wear makeup for a long time because I didn’t know what I was doing. My mum used to try to put makeup on me.

”I was in middle school, and she was like, ‘Just put lipstick on!’ And I was like, ‘Ugh, I don’t want to! It tastes bad!’ She was like, ‘Well, you don’t eat it!’ And I was like, ‘OK it’s on my mouth!’ I didn’t get it. But I figured it out – kind of.”

The 21-year-old star is still learning about creating different looks using makeup and has been picking up tips everywhere she goes.

She told PEOPLE magazine: ”My dancers just taught me this. All you really need, if you’re running out, or if you have friends coming over and you don’t want to look like you tried, you need foundation to make your skin look like butter. And then the brows! The brows are everything. I had no idea. You fill [them] in!”

The blonde beauty is already thinking of what kind of makeup she wants to wear at the Grammys next month and is considering a bold lip colour.

She added: ”I haven’t done it yet, but I love rocking a red lip. It depends on what colour my dress is, but I love it because my lips are teensy weensy and [red lipstick] shows, ‘Whoa! She has lips!”

Meghan has designed the crazy and colourful limited-edition makeup bag – which contains her favourite Clinique product, Chubby Sticks – to coincide with the launch of her debut album ‘Title’.
