According to the American television channel ABC, Gibson has publicly apologised for the remarks that he made during a recent arrest. The Lethal Weapon star was stopped for drunk driving in California, during which time he made racial comments against Jewish people.
Since the incident, the 50 year-old actor has entered a treatment centre, and is said to be on the "path to recovery".
This is not the first time that Gibson has been unpopular among the Jewish people. His film The Passion of the Christ was also thought to be anti-semetic.
