Mel Gibson Makes a Comeback on the Big Screen

Mel Gibson is making a comeback to the big screen after concentrating on his career as a director.

According to Variety, Gibson will be playing in the movie Edge of Darkness.  The actor-director has not held a starring role since Signs and We Were Soldiers in 2002. 

In Edge of Darkness, Gibson will be playing a police detective who investigates the death of his activist daughter.  He uncovers a world of corruption during his investigation.

Edge of Darkness is an adaptation of the 1986 BBC TV series.  Gibson was a big fan of this series. 

The movie will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), and the screenplay will be written by William Monahan, who won an Oscar for his work on the film The Departed.
