Variety reports that Streep has joined the cast of the New Line Cinema film.
Dewey is an adaptation of the Vicki Myron book, "Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World." The story is based on how things changed in Spencer, Iowa when a cat took up residence in the local library. Streep will play the librarian who watches the story unfold.
Streep’s next film will be Doubt, which opens in selected theatres on December 12. She will also star in Julie & Julia, opening August 7, 2009.
