The unlikely collaboration between songwriter Lou Reed and heavy metal band Metallica is finally coming to fruition, as the musicians unveil the first track, The View, from their upcoming joint album, Lulu, reports Clash magazine.
Announced earlier this year, Lulu contains songs written by Reed for use in a musical – but now given the Metallica hard rock treatment. With the album set to hit shelves on October 31, the debut single is now streaming online.
While some question the unlikely pairing, and fan reaction to the debut track has been mixed, Reed seems to have no regrets about the new project.
"This is the best thing I ever did," he said in a statement. "And I did it with the best group I could possibly find. By definition, everybody involved was honest. This has come into the world pure. We pushed as far as we possibly could within the realms of reality."
