Mexico Certifies Their Clean Beaches

Mexico identifies their clean beaches.

To encourage hotels and municipalities to keep their beaches clean, Mexico has set up a recognition program to certify "clean beaches".

Supervised by the Mexican Institute of Certification, the program rewards those beaches with a certification using strict criteria. Within a radius of 1 000 square feet, inspectors should not find more than 5 cigarette butts, cans or bottles over a period of 12 weeks.

The water quality also has to be very good, free of any kind of contamination. During the 5th annual conference of clean beaches, officials announced that the Buenaventura Grand Hotel & Spa Playa Camarones in Puerto Vallarta, received this certification.

The city wants to reward those establishments who are making an effort to clean up their beaches.
