Mexico has world’s third largest cable car

Chihuahua boasts the third largest cable car in the world.

The state of Chihuahua in Mexico can boast the third largest cable car in the world. Each car has a maximum capacity of 60 passengers, allowing 510 passengers to be transported per hour.

The multi-million dollar cable system consists of two cars running simultaneously, each moving in a different direction, and includes an intermediate station where passengers can board smaller cars that run similar a carousel. Here, travelers can also visit a restaurant, offering one of the most beautiful views in the world over the Copper Canyon.

Situated in the Sierra Tarahumara area of Chihuahua, Copper Canyon already enjoys worldwide fame for its breathtaking natural beauty and encounters with the native Tarahumaras people that live there.

Chihuahua is also the home to many unique historical locations. From mansions standing during the time of the Mexican Revolution, to the iconic Palacio Federal (now known as Casa Chihuahua) to Pancho Villa’s grave.

Although Mexico is grappling with some problems right now—drug cartels and hurricanes—it remains a scenic country steeped in a rich history.
