Michael Douglas To Play Liberace

Michael Douglas will be starring as the famous pianist, Liberace.

According to Variety, Michael Douglas has agreed to play the role of Douglas Eye Liberace, the famous homosexual pianist who died of AIDS in 1987 at the age of 67.

Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Che) will direct the project.

Matt Damon is currently in negotiations to play Scott Thorson, Liberace’s partner of five years. 

Nicolas Cage and Robin Williams had also auditioned for the main character, however the role went to Michael Douglas.

Douglas will next be seen in 2009’s The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.
