He died nearly one year ago but Michael Jackson does not seem to have lost his money-making power. According to the Daily News, the King of Pop’s empire has generated a fortune estimated at $783 million US during the 12 months since his death on June 25, 2009.
This amount is likely to merit Jackson a spot on the Forbes list of deceased celebrities who have earned the most money. This list will be unveiled in October.
Jackson was on the list last October in third spot behind Yves Saint Laurent and Rogers & Hammerstein. Last year, he generated $90 million in the three months after his death.
The $783 million generated after the death of Michael Jackson comes from the sale of albums, the film This Is It, the launch of This Is It on DVD and Blu-Ray, his copyrights, and others.
It was announced recently that there will be a tribute to Michael Jackson at the BET Awards that takes place two days after the first anniversary of his death.
In addition to the tribute to the King of Pop, Prince and John Legend will be honoured during the ceremony. The 10th edition of the BET Awards will also highlight many stars from the world of hip-hop.
The BET Awards Gala, hosted by Queen Latifah, will be broadcast live on June 27 from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium.
