Michael Keaton gets starring role in Robocop

Micheal Keaton has signed a deal to star in a remake of classic sci-fi movie ‘Robocop’ after talks with Hugh Laurie for the role broke down.

The ‘Jackie Brown’ actor has been added to the line-up for the highly anticipated reboot of the 1987 classic – which will see him play the evil boss of Omnicorp Raymond Sellars – after talks with Hugh Laurie for the role broke down.

Delighted director Jose Padhila confirmed the news in a statement saying: "Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place.

"It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of ‘RoboCop’ to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets."

Filming is set to begin in Toronto, Canada very soon and other stars appearing in the sci-fi action movie include Joel Kinnaman – who will play murdered policeman Alex Murphy -as well as Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman.

The reboot will be set in 2009 and it tells the story of powerful company Omnicorp – who are at the forefront of robot technology which is winning wars around the world – and they save Alex’s life who returns to the city with amazing new skills.

The movie is set to be released in August 2013.
