Miuccia Prada debuted her bold new collection at Milan Fashion Week yesterday (09.19.13).

The 65-year-old designer showcased her Spring/Summer 2014 campaign at the high-profile Italian event and explained she was inspired by a vision of female empowerment when designing the clothing.

She told the Guardian newspaper backstage: ”I was fixated with the idea of women and how it is necessary that they be strong, visible, kind of fighters. I wanted the clothes to be so bold that people will see you but also listen.”

Models strutted down the catwalk in rainbow-hued dresses, embellished with a sprinkling of sequins and bras worn on the outside of clothing. A schoolgirl vibe was evident in the models’ footwear thanks to socks worn with high-heeled sandals.

Unlike conventional summer collections, the Italian fashonista also included coats, which were printed with graphic illustrations of female faces.

The background was a point of interest with a number of giant pop art murals commissioned from street artists Miles ‘El Mac’Gregor, Mesa, Gabriel Specter, Stinkfish and illustrators Jeanne Detallante and Pierre Mornet.
