Moby to launch Destroyed album and book on May 17

Photography exhibits in U.S. for album and book launch.

To illustrate the strange life of an artist on tour, Moby is sharing his own snapshots taken during his tour last year. A selection of 55 tour photos are included in the book, which will be launched May 17 at the same time as his ninth studio album, reports Music Pix.

The new album, Destroyed, includes 15 tracks written by Moby, mostly late at night in hotel rooms around the world during bouts of insomnia induced from worldwide travel.

Produced by Moby and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, M83) on old analog equipment, the album is a cohesive body of work meant to be listened to in its entirety and, preferably, as it was made; late at night after the city has gone to sleep.

"Musically, it’s very melodic and atmospheric and electronic,” Moby wrote on his website, “and if i had to sum it up i would describe it as: ‘broken down melodic electronic music for empty cities at 2 a.m’.”

The album cover photograph was taken at LaGuardia Airport, as a sign flashed the individual words informing travelers that, “Unattended luggage will be destroyed.”

Moby was inspired by 1970s collaborations between Brian Eno and David Bowie for albums Low and Heroes in 1977, and Lodger in 1979, as well as artists like Kraftwerk, OMD, and Simple Minds in their early years.

A free mini-album Be The One is available for download, and includes three songs from Destroyed.
