Monkey man Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe has been monkeying around with his children and running after his young sons in a bid to keep fit.

Russell Crowe has been monkeying around with his children.

The ‘Les Miserables’ actor has found a novel way to lose weight and added a brand new exercise to his grueling daily fitness regime – chasing his little "monkeys", sons Charles, nine, and Tennyson, six, around their home.

He tweeted: "Running around with monkeys, not formal exercise but lots of fun (sic)", before adding: "I share dna with these monkeys. (sic)"

Bemused fan @AdebisiShank queried, "Is that legal?", while ‏@CubaDrive_Vinny was more practical, quipping: "Bet they wouldn’t share a banana though."

However, the 48-year-old star was quick to clarify the confusion, adding: "My kids man".

Russell regularly updates his Twitter followers on his fitness regime.

The 48-year-old actor reveals his workout tips on the micro-blogging website and is so obsessed with keeping in shape he always finds time to exercise even after a long day of filming.

This week alone, Russell – who is separated from his wife Danielle Spencer – posted: "Done a 14.6 km stat bike, prone holds, lat, light bench, shoulder routine (sic)"

Sadly, his efforts didn’t pay off quite as well earlier in the week, when he was appalled with his measly 5km effort.

He ranted: "Having a strange time of inconsistency and low motivation, 5km walk today, need to do more".
