The value of professional sports teams has been skyrocketing for some years now.
This is true of franchises in the NFL, NHL, MLB, NFL… And it’s the same for professional clubs in Europe.
Let me give you an example. In 2021, Forbes revealed that the monetary value of the Montreal Canadiens was $1.6 billion.
The following year, in 2022, Forbes announced that the Flanelle’s value had risen to $1.85 billion…
And today, we learn that Michael Andlauer has sold his shares in the Habs, taking into account the Montreal organization’s estimated value of $2.5 billion.
According to Sportico, this is a record valuation for an NHL club. Impressive:

With this assessment, we understand that the NHL is healthy right now.
The pandemic has hurt many clubs in terms of revenue… But the return of fans to the stands seems to be doing a lot of good right now.
If the CH’s value is so high, I wonder if that of the Leafs and Rangers has also risen drastically. These two clubs are usually ahead of the Habs when it comes to the “ranking” of the NHL’s most valuable teams…
It’s crazy to think that Geoff Molson bought the Montreal Canadiens in 2009, when the franchise was worth around $575 million. The club’s value has more than quadrupled since then, 14 years ago…
Speaking of Michael Andlauer
The Senators’ new owner spoke to the media in Ottawa today to announce that Pierre Dorion has stepped down as the club’s GM.
That said… Andlauer wasn’t shy about sending a few arrows at the NHL during his interview with reporters.
He complained about the league’s handling of the aborted Evgenii Dadonov deal… And he doesn’t understand why it’s all coming down to him.
He didn’t look like the happiest guy in the world, let’s put it this way:
“Why I inherited this is beyond me.”

Andlauer argues that the NHL may have waited on purpose to settle the matter so as not to affect the Senators’ monetary value.
But now that the club has been sold and there’s a new prorpio in place, the league has decided to crack down on the Sens, who will have to part with a first-round pick as a result…
Breaking news
– Good news.
I asked Mike Matheson how he was feeling.
“I’m fine,” he said with a big smile.
It would have been surprising if he’d said anything else, but the fact that he’s training and talking to the media is reassuring.
And he’s a guy in excellent physical shape.

– Kaiden Guhle, Juraj Slafkovsky and Arber Xhekaj worked overtime after CH training.
Training ended a good 30 minutes ago.
Slafkovsky, Guhle and Xhekaj are still on the ice, working with Adam Nicholas.
