Montrealer Melissa Auf der Maur confirms new album

Bassist Melissa Auf der Maur, formerly of Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins, will release her second solo album.

Melissa Auf der Maur has been in the news recently since ex-bandmate Courtney Love announced her new album would be released under the name ‘Hole’. Auf der Maur issued a statement denying Love has the right to use that name since no former member save herself is involved.

The bassist is working on her own album, the second in her career after the release of a debut album in 2004.

Her next offering is coming out in April and it’s a concept album. There’s music on one side and a film on the other. The Tony Stone film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.

Since leaving Hole, Melissa Auf der Maur toured with The Smashing Pumpkins and played with some friends in a group doing Black Sabbath covers. The album Hand of Doom, Live in Los Angeles is the result of that collaboration.
