More teardrops for Coldplay

Every Teardrop is a Waterfall to be released on CD and vinyl.

English alt rockers Coldplay have another surprise for fans – they’re releasing their recent single, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall in a physical edition, bundled with bonus track Major Minus, reports Clash.

Due out June 27, the single will be available on CD or seven-inch blue vinyl, with Major Minus on the record’s B-side. The band will also release the two tracks as a digital bundle and are reportedly working on an exclusive iTunes bundle that will contain additional bonus tracks.

The single has been available for digital download since June 3. Within hours of its debut, listeners began pointing out the similarities between Every Teardrop and Mystic’s Ritmo de la Noche, accusing Coldplay of having plagiarized the tune.

The band replied that they had had actually gained permission to borrow the opening piano riff from an even earlier song – Peter Allen ‘s 1976 tune I Go to Rio – which had also been borrowed for use in Ritmo.

In creating the new single, the band collaborated with the song’s original authors who are credited on Every Teardrop, explained a spokesperson for Coldplay.
