Less than one month after the reopening of its plant in Toronto, Maple Leaf faces another conflict. Four samples taken from the 97B plant were contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, following an inspection conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
As one of the hotspots carrying the blame for the country’s listeriosis outbreak, Maple Leaf closed down the factory on August 20 and publicly acknowledged that their products have contributed to consumer poisoning.
The death of twenty Canadians stemmed from food poisoning after consumption of the company’s products.
No food items from this factory have been found on supermarket shelves according to the CFIA, who are keeping a close eye on the Maple Leaf 97B plant.
