MTV O Music Awards celebrate best in online artists

Awards ceremony will recognize artists with best fans, Twitter feeds and viral videos.

In celebration of the digital age, the second MTV O Music Awards will take place October 31, recognizing musical artists who embrace the web and social media to create for and interact with their fans.

Only six months after the first awards ceremony, five new user-generated categories have been added to the roster, including Oops! I Did It Online – presented to celebrities who over-share, best artist with a cameraphone, best web-born artist, best vintage viral video, and best lyrics video.

Online heavyweights Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have scored two nominations each. Their online followers – Little Monsters and Beliebers, as they’re dubbed – will compete for the Fan Army FTW award, while Gaga is also up for must follow artist on Twitter, and Bieber is on the ballot for best artist with a cameraphone.

The awards, however, aren’t just about top-of-the-chart pop stars. Music hacks, social music services, forums, apps, blogs and innovative festivals all have categories of their own.
