Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor have signed on to star in The Impossible. It revolves around events that happened when a tsunami hit the coast of Thailand after an earthquake in the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004.
Variety reveals that Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to distribute the film. It will start filming in Spain next August and move on to Thailand in October.
Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) will direct the film with a screenplay written by Sergio G. Sánchez.
Belen Atienza, Lopez Lavigne and Alvaro Augustin are producing the project.
There is no date yet for the release of Fair Game starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The actress can also be seen in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger coming to theatres on September 23.
Ewan McGregor stars in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang opening on August 20.
