On Monday (December 27), Hollywood actress Natalie Portman, 29, announced her engagement to French ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, 33.
"I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience," the Black Swan actress told Entertainment Weekly in a statement.
The couple, who are expecting their first child, met last year on the set of director Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller Black Swan. The film is currently in theatres and stars Portman as a veteran ballerina – a role for which critic Kurt Loder wrote, "Portman gives one of her most compelling performances in this film, which is saying something."
Her performance has earned her nominations for Best Actress at the upcoming Golden Globes and Screen Actor Guild Awards.
The Israeli-American actress has always been discreet about her private life. Between 2003 and 2004, she was in a relationship with the actor Gael Garcia Bernal, and was seeing American singer-songwriter and visual artist Devendra Banhanrt for a few months in 2008.
