National Museum of Scotland reopens galleries July 29

Victorian part of Edinburgh museum currently under renovation.

On July 29, the newly-renovated National Museum of Scotland will reopen. The fully-renovated Victorian part of the museum will give visitors access to more space and a larger number of galleries for the museum’s permanent collection.

Sixteen new galleries totaling 7,000 square meters will display some four million objects from the permanent collection owned by the National Museum of Scotland, revealing cultural artifacts from the corners of the globe.

Children will be fascinated by the life-size reconstruction of a Tyrannosaurus rex, while history buffs can see unique stone reliefs from the Assyrian empire of King Assurnasirpal, dating back to more than 1000 BC.

The museum has a section dedicated to inventions derived from Scottish genius, including the likes of Sir Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin, and John Logie Baird, inventor of the television.
