NATO cancels Arcade Fire concerts

NATO summit meeting forces Arcade Fire to cancel Lisbon concert.

Citing security reasons, authorities in Lisbon, Portugal, have cancelled Arcade Fire’s November 18 concert at the Atlantica Pavilion, reports Music News. The sold-out concert for a crowd of 20,000 was cancelled because authorities could not provide the necessary security for the band and the crowd.

The police have their hands full with security duties for a summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government, to take place in Lisbon November 18 to 20. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a collective military defence system of 28 countries, mostly from North America and Europe.

Manager of the Montreal group, Scott Rodger, confirmed the news on Twitter and, apologized to fans: “Unfortunately the show could not be rescheduled in the short term. Sorry Lisbon.”

Tickets will be refunded from the point of purchase. The band’s next gig is slated for the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday, November 20.
