Nelson Mandela, Will Smith and Annie Lennox Among the Celebrities Fighting Aids

The stars are gathering for Nelson Mandela’s second AIDS benefit concert in South Africa.

More artists arrived Friday at the site for the concert.  The event once again takes the name 46664, a reference to Mandela’s prison number during his incarceration in apartheid-era South Africa.

During the evening, which will be hosted by Will Smith, the theme will be prevention of AIDS, especially for woman and young girls.  They are 6 times more likely than South African men to be afflicted with the disease.  600 people are dying each day.

The golf course hosting the event will have performers ranging from Annie Lennox to the rock group Queen.  The former lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, died of AIDS.  More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the benefit.
