New album from The Cars

Popular 1980s new wave band releases first new album in 24 years.

One of the greatest American new wave bands of the 1980s returns to the music scene on May 10 with their first new album in 23 years, reports Consequence of Sound.

Last year on The Cars’ Facebook page, a photo was posted of the surviving members of the Boston group that used to cause frenzy among fans during their heydays in the 1980s.

So began the rumours that the group, who had split up in 1988 after the release of their sixth studio album Door to Door, was back in the studio. On October 13, they also posted a sample of their new song Blue Tip, and on New Year’s Day, they posted another clip of a song called Free.

The studio sessions are almost complete and the group, feeling confident that their new disc will be completed soon, have just announced May 10 as the launch date for Move Like This, their first new album in nearly a quarter century. The album’s first single, Sad Song, will be released for radio play in March.

Since their initial separation, the Cars lost their bass player and second lead vocalist, Benjamin Orr who died of pancreatic cancer in 2000.
