New Amy Winehouse album on hold

Pop singer heads back to rehab.

The release of U.K. singer Amy Winehouse’s new album has been delayed due to her latest admission to a substance abuse treatment program last week, reports NME.

A representative for the 27-year-old singer, told People that Winehouse “has embarked on a treatment program at the Priory Clinic. She wants to be ready for performances in Europe this summer and decided to seek an assessment. She will remain at the Priory on doctors’ advice.”

"She’s determined, and this is all off her own back," a source added. "It’s just a lapse. There are ups and downs on the road, and there have been mostly ups recently. But this is a down and she’s done the right thing and gone to rehab."

The singer has a series of summer concerts planned to start June 18 in Europe.

"She has finally finished the album and it’s ready to go,” the source continued. “They were just about to finalize a release date and then this happened. She is back in rehab for the foreseeable future so it is just a question of waiting and seeing now. But there is no way they can give a specific release date until they know she is likely to be out."

The new album will be the singer’s first since 2006’s Grammy Award-winning Back to Black, which won Best Pop Vocal Album and sold more than 2 million copies.
