New aquarium to be built at base of CN Tower

Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada coming to Toronto in 2013.

A state-of-the-art aquarium is coming to Toronto, due to open at the foot of the CN Tower in summer 2013, reports Canoe Travel.

Once completed, the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada will hold six million liters of water and over 13,000 species of freshwater and ocean fish.

"What I like most about an aquarium is that all ages – from toddlers to pre-schoolers to retired grandparents – can really enjoy the wonders of the sea," said Jim Pattison, chairman of the company which owns Ripley Entertainment.

An aquarium of this calibre is a major boon for the province, according to Michael Chan, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism and Culture.

"This state-of-the-art facility will provide jobs for our residents and a wonderful tourist attraction for our city. I want to thank Jim Pattison for being here with us today, as Toronto could not have found a better company to work with to develop this major new attraction," added Toronto mayor Rob Ford.
