New ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ movie

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will return to the big screen.

Buffy: the Vampire Slayer debuted in 1992 as a horror-comedy feature film starring Kristy Swenson, and took on second life as a television series 1997-2003 starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

In 2009, a new Buffy movie was discussed, and now Atlas Entertainment and Warner Bros. confirms their intention to bring Buffy back to the big screen.

“There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return…While this is not your high-school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough and sexy as we all remember her to be,” said Charles Roven, producer with Atlas Entertainment.

The script was written by fan, Whit Anderson, who said, “I always watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer…I just loved this character. I was the same age as Buffy, and it was so rare to have a female lead character on TV in those days who was strong and capable and smart but also allowed to be feminine.”

There has been no word on whether creator Joss Whedon will be involved in the project, however no director has been named for the film, expected to reach theatres by 2012.
