New high-speed train service in Japan

Journey between Hakata and Kagoshima shortened by two hours with new rail service.

When you visit the land of the rising sun, you can now count on a new line of high-speed rail to reduce your travel time. The Shinkansen, also known as the bullet train, is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies

A new high-speed link between the cities of Hakata and Kagoshima has shortened the trip from three hours and twenty minutes to just one hour and 20 minutes, cutting a full two hours off the journey.

The city of Kagoshima is nicknamed the ‘Naples of the Eastern world’ for its bay location on the southwestern tip of Japan’s Kyushu Island, the third largest island of the four main islands that make up Japan.

In the region surrounding Kagoshima, one can visit the castle at Kumamoto, the Aso volcano, the Amakusa Islands, known for its many Christian churches, and the ancient forests of Yakushima, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
