New James Bond film stars Daniel Craig

Official announcement that 23rd instalment of spy movie will begin filming with British actor later this year.

The future of the James Bond franchise had been somewhat clouded due to the precarious financial situation of MGM Studios.

Fans of spy series can now relax with yesterday’s (January 11) official announcement from EON Productions and MGM that the 23rd James Bond movie will start production late this year, and worldwide theatrical release is planned for November 9, 2012.

Daniel Craig is set to reprise the famous role 007, the British spy who is “licensed to kill.” The spy’s latest adventures do not yet have title or storyline.

Sam Mendes will direct the project, and the screenplay was written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

Early last year, in April 2010, filming of the 23rd James Bond had been put on hold indefinitely because of financial problems MGM.

In the meantime Craig has been busy. Fans can see the actor in Cowboys and Aliens co-starring Harrison Ford on July 29. Dream House, the film where he met his new girlfriend, co-star Rachel Weisz, opens on September 30.

Finally, Craig finishes 2011 in the role of Red Rackham in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn due in theatres December 28.
