New KISS album channels Destroyer

Eric Singer says new album is “a straight-ahead rock KISS record.”

Heavy-rockers KISS are currently in the studio working on new material and drummer Eric Singer has likened their approach to the band’s 1976 classic Destroyer.

"This isn’t The Elder where we have a theme for the whole record," Singer told Bravewords.com. "It’s a straight-ahead rock KISS record and I think this stuff is far stronger, better material [than Sonic Boom]. It’s more riffy, which makes it more interesting."

Singer also revealed that the band have completed recording eight songs, although the album as yet remains untitled.

The veteran drummer – who has previously played with Lita Ford, Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper – promised that both he and guitarist Tommy Thayer will have a vocal song on the album: "We’ve never asked to sing a song," he said. "Paul [Stanley] is the producer and that was his choice and decision. It was him encouraging me to sing."

Eric Singer was invited to join KISS by founding members Paul Stanley (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Gene Simmons (vocals, bass) after the death of drummer Eric Carr in 1991.
