New luxury hotel chain moves into Europe

Asian hotelier Alila plans to expand into Portugal and other new markets.

Luxury hotel chain Alila has unveiled plans to expand into Europe, doubling its number of hotels – from nine to 18 as it breaks into new markets, reports Business Travel.

Alila means ‘surprise’ in Sanskit, and the company lives up to its name, preferring to keep plans under wraps until the last moment. Already this year, the company has opened new hotels in Siem Reap, Cambodia and Bangalore, India.

Alila Bangalore is the city’s first business-class hotel, offering 101 luxury rooms, 12 smaller suites and seven largeLeisure suites. The hotel also has two Alila Residences – three-bedroom suites which offer a full kitchen, living room, library, and maid’s room.

Within the next two years, the Asian chain plans to open its first European hotel near Lisbon, Portugal. Named the Alila Ronçao, the Portuguese hotel is expected to open in 2012 or 2013.
