New Music February 1

Bob Marley’s last concert recording and Rod Stewart’s greatest hits dominate the new music scene this week.

February is off to a quiet start for new music, with a first week dominated by the 1980 live recording from Bob Marley and a greatest hits collection from Rod Stewart.

Bob Marley – Live Forever: The Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh PA September 23, 1980 is a two-disc set containing recordings from the legendary reggae artist’s last concert. Twenty tracks are divided between two discs, including Marley’s well-known hits No Woman No Cry and Jamming. Marley was already suffering from cancer when the Pittsburgh concert was recorded, and would pass away eight months later.

Rod Stewart’s The Best Of…The Great American Songbook also hit shelves today. The album pulls together the best tracks from Stewart’s five Great American Songbook albums, including hits like The Way You Look Tonight and What a Wonderful World featuring Stevie Wonder.

Livin’ La Vida Loca singer Ricky Martin releases his new album Musica + Alma + Sexo today. Most of the 13 tracks are in Spanish, except for two English singles: Shine, and The Best Thing About Me is You featuring Joss Stone.

A number of smaller releases are also due out today. Christian hard rock band Red releases their third studio album, Until We Have Faces; seventeen-year-old singer Christina Ashley comes out with her debut album, Let It All Go; and British indie rockers, The Go! Team offer an eclectic mix of tunes on their third studio album, Rolling Blackouts.
