New music from both sides of the border

Canadian indie rockers Broken Social Scene are back and more Courtney Love-Hole controversy.

Canada has been waiting five years for new material from Broken Social Scene. Well, the wait is over. As of today, fans can get their hands on Forgiveness Rock Record.

One of the biggest releases on the American side of the border is Hole’s new album, Nobody’s Daughter. Lead singer and frontwoman Courtney Hole says she took advantage of a stint in rehab to write new music. The new album has only been released for 24 hours and is already swimming in controversy.

Besides flipping the bird to her former bandmates (she reformed Hole with no other original members), Courtney Love is engaged in a nasty public battle with ex-boyfriend and song writing partner Billy Corgan.

Billy Corgan wrote yesterday (April 26) on Twitter: "The world is aware of your lack of responsibility, as seen in the gov’t taking away your parental right. Only you could abandon such a beautiful, incredible child who is smarter than u, cooler than u, and better than u. Oops, did I say too much?"

If that wasn’t nasty enough, the Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman went on to tweet: "If you can’t write your own songs maybe you should just be happy that you fooled someone into doing your work for you."

Happily, there are authentic rockers who age gracefully. Take Melissa Etheridge who launches Fearless Love today. This is her 11th studio album and the first with original material since 2007.

Other releases to note are the Iron Man 2 soundtrack and the fourth release, an eponymous album by nu metal group Drowning Pool.
