New pavilion and concert hall at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Six-story pavilion and 450-seat concert hall added to MMFA.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has a new six-story pavilion and 444-seat concert hall, which is now set to open to the public, reports the Montreal Gazette.

The Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavilion of Quebec and Canadian Art features six floors of exhibit space dedicated to historical national artwork, from traditional Inuit crafts to Modernist painters of the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s.

Attached to the new pavilion, the Bourgie Concert Hall is housed in the former Erskine and American United Church. Along with comfortable seating for over 400 guests, the converted church also provides exhibit space for 81 restored pieces of stained glass, including 20 pieces made by Tiffany in New York City.

"With the opening of the Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavilion in October, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will offer a presentation unique in Canada, tracing a complete history of Quebec and Canadian art in six new galleries featuring more than double the current exhibition space," according to the museum website.
