New Queen album will feature vocals from Freddie Mercury

Brian May and Roger Taylor scour old demos in efforts to resurrect late singer.

More than 20 years after the death of frontman Freddie Mercury, members of Queen – Brian May and Roger Taylor – are in the process of digging through the group’s sound archives to uncover songs for a new release, reports Gibson.com.

The operatic and iconic band attempted a comeback with singer Paul Rodgers from 2004 to 2009, but finally concluded they could never recapture the level of popularity they enjoyed when Mercury manned the mic. Determined to forge a future for Queen, May and Taylor decided to dig into their past in order to facilitate fresh material.

As yet, no release date has been given for the new album, but May and Taylor have announced a new Queen musical is under development as a follow-up to 2002’s We Will Rock You.

On November 6, the rock legends will perform at the MTV European Music Awards as recipients of this year’s Global Icon award. May has suggested that Lady Gaga is under consideration as a stand-in vocalist.
