New soundtrack by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood

English musician and composer scores film soundtrack for Norwegian Wood.

Radiohead band member Jonny Greenwood was enlisted to create the soundtrack for the Japanese film Norwegian Wood, based on the 1987 novel by Haruki Murakami, reports Clash.

Greenwood’s score will appear on the official soundtrack, which is set to drop on March 7, prior to the film’s release on March 11. Greenwood’s compositions were performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Emperor Quartet.

Both the novel and the movie take their title from the classic Beatles song Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown), which is repeatedly referenced in the story.

This is Greenwood’s third soundtrack. In 2003, the Bodysong soundtrack album was his first solo release. Years later, There Will Be Blood writer and director Paul Thomas Anderson approached the musician to create a score for his 2007 film. His compositions for this film were highly acclaimed by reviewers and earned him a Critics’ Choice Award.

Greenwood is hard at work on the upcoming Radiohead album, which is expected to be released this year.
