Nickelback Gives to Africa

Nickelback has donated $500 000 to the Obakki Foundation.

While readers of The Word magazine in England may consider the group as one of the worst in the world, they can’t talk smack about their generosity. Nickelback, an international success story that originated in Canada, gave a $500 000 donation to the Obakki Foundation, which was founded by guitarist Ryan Peake and his wife, Treana, in support of African children.

The band promised to donate $1 for each ticket sold during their current tour, and they have lived up to their world. "Through the ongoing support of our incredible fans, Nickelback has the opportunity to step up, contribute and make a difference," guitarist Ryan Peake said. "I will personally be making a trip to Africa this weekend and I’m really looking forward to visiting the villages and communities to see where we can make the largest impact."

Peake and his wife will be in Africa until December 15, and will visit children in three orphanages.

Recently, Nickelback announced new concert dates, 4 of which are in Canada; April 6, 2010 in London, April 8 in Toronto, April 9 in Montreal and April 11 in Ottawa. These new shows will allow the Obakki Foundation to further benefit from ticket sales.
