No complications during pregnancy for epileptic women

Epileptic women have nothing to worry about during their pregnancy.

Women who suffer from epilepsy are not at risk during pregnancy.

According to a letter from the French Foundation for Epilepsy Research, which cited a U.S. study on the subject, there are no complications for pregnant women  in 92% to 96% of cases.

The disease does not worsen with pregnancy and did not influence the course of pregnancy and childbirth.

However, women with epilepsy who become pregnant must be carefully monitored because it is still a high risk pregnancy.

A neurologist and an obstetrician will treat the mother and her child. In addition, medication should be adjusted or there is the risk of malformations in the fetus during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Everything goes smoothly for most women with this disease and they should be able to enjoy motherhood just like other healthy women.
