No way to prevent or slow down Alzheimer’s

A new finding reports there is no treatment to prevent and slow Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment.

An expert committee at the National Institutes of Health in the United States was instructed to look into the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and also cognitive impairment associated with aging.

According to them, there is no valid scientific evidence available for them to be able to recommend certain methods against these diseases.

No medication, no supplement or lifestyle change can prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s or slow its progression.

The cholinesterase inhibitor drugs used to slow the disease cannot prevent it. Same goes for antihypertensives or hormone replacement.

Hope stems now from current research on the effectiveness of antidepressants, omega-3s and physical and intellectual activity. It seems, however, that things are not looking very encouraging at this time. The committee noted that the effects are only modest so far.
